Happy #freebiefriday friends! This is the last week of the Back To School series. I hope you've enjoyed the patterns I've shared so far! Today's pattern is for the Pencil Book Mark. This bookmark is approximately 9 by 3 inches and can be whipped up in an afternoon! It is also a great beginner pattern! Supplies Needed:

-Size H/8-5.00mm crochet hook

-Less than 7 oz of each of the following colors of yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver brand) Bright Yellow, Cameo Rose (this color is difficult to find so any pink shade will work), Dusty Grey, Black and Buff. 

-Scissors

-Yarn Needle

Pattern Notes:

-This pattern uses US terminology.

-Chain does not count as a stitch.
-Finished measurement is approximately 9 by 3 inches.

Abbreviations:

Ch.: Chain

Sl. St.: Slip Stitch

Beg.: Beginning
Sc: Single Crochet
Sc Inc: Single Crochet Increase (2 sc in same stitch)
Sc Dec: Single Crochet Decrease
Sc3tog: Single Crochet 3 together. You will make a Single crochet decrease except with 3 stitches.

St.: Stitch

YO: Yarn Over
Ea: Each

Rep: Repeat

FO: Finish Off
Sk: skip

* *: Repeat instructions in * *

Gauge:

4 rows by 4 single crochets = 1 inch

Pattern

Begin working with Cameo Rose

Round 1: Ch 10. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch. (9 sc)

Rounds 2-6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (9 sc) 

After round 6, FO Cameo Rose and join Dusty Grey

Rounds 7-9: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (9 sc)

After round 9, FO Dusty Grey and join Bright Yellow

Rounds 10-27: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (9 sc)

After round 27, FO Bright Yellow and join Buff

Round 28: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (9 sc)

Round 29: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 5 st, Sc dec. (7 sc) 

Round 30: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 3 st, Sc dec. (5 sc) 

Finish of Buff and change to Black

Round 31: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc, Sc dec. (3 sc)

Round 32: Ch 1, turn. Sc3tog. (1 sc)

Round 33 (Border Round): Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st and sc inc in ea of the 4 corner stitches around. Ss in first st of round 33. FO and weave in all ends. 

Congrats! Your Bookmark is now complete!
