Happy New Year everyone! Christmas is officially over and New Years is now behind us so I thought I would get a head start on Valentines Day. Today I'm sharing with you the "Owl Love You Hat"! It's an adorable child size owl hat that will be great for Valentines Day (or just a hat to show your little one you love them!) 💗
You can make this hat different sizes by adding or decreasing the beginning chain count.

Owl Love You Hat Crochet Pattern
Supplies Needed:
Worsted Weight #4 yarn- I used Red Heart Super Saver in Pretty 'N Pink, Dusty Grey, Carrot and Aran Fleck
Size 5 mm/H hook
Yarn Needle
Scissors
1 inch buttons
Gauge:
15 Hdc x 9 rows= 4 inches
Abbreviations:
Beg: Beginning
Ch.: Chain
St.: Stitch
MR: Magic Ring or Magic Circle
Ea: Each
Trb: Treble Crochet (Triple Crochet)
Dc: Double Crochet
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Sc: Single Crochet
Sc inc.: Single Crochet Increase
Hdc Inc: Half Double Crochet Increase
FO: Finish Off
* *: Repeat sequence
( ): all st. in same st.
sl. st.: slip stitch
Special Stitches:
Trb: Yarn over twice, insert into first stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops.
Notes:
Always join to 1st st.
Chain does not count as a stitch.
Pattern
Hat Base.
Starting with dusty grey:
Round 1: Ch. 32, hdc in 2nd ch. from hook and in ea. ch. across. Turn 90° and hdc in ea. ch. on opposite side of beg. ch. Join to first st. (60 hdc)
Round 2-9: Ch. 1, hdc in ea. Hdc around. Join. (60 hdc)
Change to Shocking Pink:
Round 10-16: Ch. 1, hdc in ea. st. around. Join. (60 hdc)
Round 17: Ch. 1, sc in ea. st. around. FO. Weave In Ends.
Eyes
First Eye:
Round 1: MR, Ch. 1, hdc 9. Close up circle. Join. (9 hdc)
Round 2: Ch. 1, hdc inc. in ea. st. around. Join. (18 hdc)
Round 3: Ch. 1, *Hdc, Hdc inc.* around. Join. (27 hdc)
FO. Leave long tail for sewing eye to hat. Sew or glue button in center of eye.
Second Eye:
Round 1: MR, Ch. 1, 11 dc. Join. (11 dc)
Round 2: Ch. 3, 2 Trb in first st, 3 Trb in next st., (dc, hdc) in next st., sc, sc, (sc, hdc, sc) in next st., sc, sc, (hdc, dc) in next st., 3 Trb. in next st., 3 Trb in next st., ch. 2, sl. st. in 1st ch. of beg. ch. 3 st. (11 Trb, 2 dc, 3 hdc, 6 sc) (22 total st.)
FO. Leave long tail for sewing eye to hat. Sew of glue button to center of eye.
Nose
Round 1: Ch. 2, sc inc. in 2nd ch. from hook. Ch. 1, turn. (2 sc)
Round 2: Sc, Sc Inc, ch. 1, turn. (3 sc)
Round 3: Sc in next 2 sc, sc inc., ch. 1, turn. (4 sc)
Round 4: Sc in next 3 sc, sc inc., ch. 1, turn. (5 sc)
Round 5: Sc in next 4 sc, sc inc., ch. 1, turn. (6 sc)
Round 6: Sc in next 5 sc, sc inc. Do Not Chain and Do Not Turn. Sc in same st.
Finishing: Turn work 90°. Working along side of triangle, sc 5. Sc in same st. Working along 2nd side of triangle, sc 4, sc inc. in last st. FO. Leave a long tail for sewing nose to hat.
Ears
Cut 6- 6 inch strands of pink and grey (12 total). Loop 3 strands of each color around stitches on top left of hat (see pictures). Knot. Repeat with right side. Trim if necessary. I trimmed mine to 2 inches.
Congrats! Your hat is now finished!
