Good morning, afternoon or evening everyone! Today's FREE crochet pattern is the Divided Peaks Ear warmer! It is part of a set! If you missed last weeks post, the (FREE) Divided Peaks Beanie (or Bun Hat) crochet pattern, you can find it here. Now back to this pattern. 😊 Today's ear warmer can be done in 2 or more colors (shown above) or in a self stripping yarn, such as Red Heart Stripes (shown below). It looks great either way! Divided Peaks Earwarmer


Supplies Needed: 

● #4 Worsted Weight yarn: Color A (Example is made with Red Heart Super Saver in Dusty Gray), less than 7 oz., Color B (Red Heart Super Saver in Navy), less than 7 oz. 
Multi color Ear warmer was made with Red Heart Stripes in the color Parrot.
● US I/9-5.5 mm hook and US J/10-6.00 mm 


Gauge: 

11 Hdc x 6 Rows=4x4 inches 


Pattern Notes: 

1. Video tutorial for Butterfly stitch can be found here. 
2. Sl. St. to first st. of round to join. 
3. Must have knowledge of how to work in the third loop. 
4. This pattern is for an adult size only. 

Abbreviations: 
● Ch: Chain 
● Sc: Single Crochet 
● Dc: Double Crochet 
● Hdc: Half Double Crochet 
● Hdc dec: Half Double Crochet Decrease 
● BLO: Back Loop Only 
● Sk: Skip 
● BS: Butterfly Stitch 
● St: Stitch 
● YO: Yarn Over 
● Rep: Repeat 

Special Stitches:

Starting Butterfly Stitch (Starting BS): 
1. Insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 1 loop (there are now 2 
loops on hook). 
2. Insert hook into next st., yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through last 2 loops, ch. 1. 

Butterfly Stitch (BS):
1. Insert hook into first stitch "hole", yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 1 loop (there are now 2 loops
on hook).
2. Insert hook into next stitch "hole", yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, pull through last 2
loops, ch. 1.


Pattern

Brim:
With Gray and using I hook:

Round 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 ch. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc) 
Round 2-66: Sc in BLO of next 3 sc, sc in BOTH loops of last sc, ch. 1, turn. 
Fold in half so working side is lined up with the Ch. side. Sl. st. across to join ends. (See photo 1) Turn band right side out so seam is on the inside. 
Ch. 1 and begin working along the end of the rows. (See photo 2)

Main Part: 
Round 1: Sc in end of ea. round from previous row. (66 sc) 
Change to Navy
Round 2: *Work starting BS over next 2 stitches* around. Join to first st., Ch. 1 (33 BS) 
Round 3: *Work BS over next 2 st.* Join to first st. Ch.1 (33 BS) 
Change to J hook and Gray
Round 4: Hdc in ea. st. around. Join to first st. Ch. 2 (66 Hdc) 
Round 5: Hdc in 3rd loop of each st. Join to first st., Ch. 1 (66 Hdc) 
Round 6: Sc in BLO of each st. Join to first st. Ch. 1 (66 sc) 
Change to Navy and I hook
Round 7: Rep. Round 2. (33 BS) 
Round 8: Rep. Round 3. (33 BS) 
Round 9: Ch. 4, sc in 2nd ch. from hook and next 2 ch.. Sc dec over next 2 st. of previous round *see photo*. Turn. DO NOT Ch. Sk. sc, sc in BLOofnext2 sc,sc in both loops of last sc., ch. 1, turn. 
Round 10: Sc in BLO in next 3 sc. Sc dec next 2 sc of earwarmer, turn, sk. 1st sc., sc BLO next 2 sc. Sc in both loops of last sc. Ch. 1, turn. 
Round 11-66: Rep. round 10. 
Finishing: Cut yarn. Sl. st. up last round and beg. Ch. to join. Weave in ends.
