~A FREE Crochet Pattern!~


This weeks free crochet pattern is the Free Acorn Coaster and/or hot pad. This free crochet pattern can be used as a coaster, a hot pad, home decor or even a hostess gift! This is an easy, beginner to intermediate crochet pattern. You can easily whip up a few of these acorn coasters in less then a day! They would also be a great addition to your holiday and seasonal decor! Supplies Needed:

-Any #4 Worsted Weight, Cotton Yarn in  colors. Less then 180 yards of each. (Examples were made with I Love This Cotton in the colors Antique Gold, Antique Cream, and Brown)
-Yarn Needle

Pattern Notes:

-This pattern uses US terminology.
-Chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
-Unless otherwise noted, always slip stitch to the first stitch of the round to join.
-Chain 1 and turn at the beginning of each round, unless otherwise noted. 

Abbreviations:

Ch.: Chain
Sl. St.: Slip Stitch
Beg.: Beginning
Sc: Single Crochet
Sc Inc: Single Crochet Increase
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Dc: Double Crochet
Dc Inc: Double Crochet Increase
Puff: Puff Stitch
St.: Stitch
YO: Yarn Over
Ea: Each
Rep: Repeat
FO: Finish Off
Sk: Skip
Sp: Space
C1: Color 1 (Brown)
C2: Color 2 (Antique Cream)
C3: Color 3 (Antique Gold)
* *: Repeat instructions in * *

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch:

*YO, insert hook into indicated stitch. YO, pull up a loop. YO, pull thru 2 loops.* Repeat 2 more times. YO, pull thru all 4 loops on hook. Ch 1. 


Pattern

Start with Brown (Color 1) 

Round 1: Ch 21. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea of the next 19 ch. (20 sc)
Round 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (20 sc)
Round 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc inc in first st. Sc in next 18 st. Sc inc in last st. (22 sc)
Round 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc Inc in first st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 3 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 3 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 2 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 3 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 3 st, Puff in next st, Sc Inc in last st. (24 sc) 
Round 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (24 sc) 
Round 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea of the first 6 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 2 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 4 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the next 2 st, Puff in next st, Sc in ea of the last 6 st. (24 sc) 
Rounds 7 and 8: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (24 sc) 

FO Brown

Round 9: Join Color 2 (Antique Cream) in 4th st from the end with right side facing. Ch 1. Sc in same st as ch 1 and in next 17 st. (18 sc)
Round 10-16: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea st across. (18 sc) 
Round 17: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 14 st, Sc dec. (16 sc)
Round 18: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 12 st, Sc dec. (14 sc)
Round 19: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 10 st, Sc dec. (12 sc)
Round 20: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 8 st, Sc dec. (10 sc)
Round 21: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 6 st, Sc dec. (8 sc) 
Round 22: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 4 st, Sc dec. (6 sc)
Round 23: Ch 1, turn. Sc dec, Sc in ea of the next 2 st, Sc dec. (4 sc) 

FO Color 2 and join Color 3 (Antique Gold)


Border/Edge

Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea of the first 5 st. Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (first corner st). Sc in next 6 st (down side). Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 10 st. Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 6 st, Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 17 st, Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 6 st, Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 10 st. Sc-Ch 1-Sc in next st (corner st). Sc in next 6 st, Sc-Ch 1 in same st as first st of border/edge. Ss in first st. 

FO and weave in ends.
